Kung Fury

I am usually dubious about hype, but this really is amazing. The filmmakers were wise to keep this nostalgia bomb to 30 minutes rather than trying to pad it out to feature length; the result is a movie that is watchable and inventive. The most remarkable aspect is that it is free to watch. I'll be stunned if this doesn't lead to bigger things for David Sandberg. Heartily recommended. Check out the Laser Unicorns YouTube page for a host of appropriately rad extras.

Short Film: Invocation (2013)

Starting to feel all warm and festive? Well FORGET IT. Robert Morgan is back with a  creepy-as-hell short about a cute teddy bear...

Trailer Trash: Paperboy 3

I've seen too many videogame to movie adaptations that have fallen flat. Mortal Kombat, Mario, Streetfighter, House of the Dead... I feel sullied even thinking about it.
Then along comes this awesome trailer for Paperboy 3: if only this were real.

8-Bit Version of The Shining

Maybe not quite as creepy as Kubrick's, but it has a pumping soundtrack

Short Film: Donut Cats in Japan

If only it had been Donut Monkeys vs Columbo...but hey, I'll take what I can get. Worth watching for the  end credits alone. Strangely, it left me with the same feeling I get after eating a donut.  This could be my new diet regime...

Short Film: One Last Dive (2013)

One Last Dive from jasoneisener on Vimeo.

Well worth a minute of your time - this is a super-efficient set-up: in 60 seconds Eisner manages to create a creepier atmosphere than most films manage in 60 minutes

Short Film: Elm Street Fan-Film Double

As fan films go, Chris Notarile's Krueger films are pretty good - they are extraordinarily light on plot and the sound/music could be better, but Lombardi is far more convincing as Freddy athn Jackie Earle Haley was. Chris was originally planning a trilogy, so hopefully the third installment will be with us soon.

Short Film: Perihelion (2012)

Nick Cross's animation may be under three minutes in duration, but it nevertheless manages to evoke many horrors of human atrocity in an epic fashion. Well worth watching.

Short Film: I Live in the Woods (2009)

Bear with this one - it is a bit twee at the outset, but it quickly turns into a Nietzschean nightmare. Hurrah!

Biting Elbows

Although the above video has been getting good word of mouth, I was put off by the thumbnail for the video offered on many websites - a shot of a woman in a bikini (the only such shot in the entire video). Sex sells, I guess.
Anyway, having finally watched it, this video really is good. The content is nonsense, but it has been a while since I have asked myself "how did they do that?" this many times in the space of five minutes.

Music for One Apartment and Six Drummer

Easily my favourite short film - ten minutes of absolute joy

Halloween vs Battle Royale

I make no secret of my disdain for Halloween (the film, not the event). Overrated and dull. Evidently some filmmakers share my view and have kindly sought to improve upon the original premise...by arming the stalkees.
